Covid-19 Policy for the 2023 NZMS Conference

University of Otago Covid policy

The NZMS conference COVID-19 policy is in line with both the University of Otago Covid policy and Ministry of Health guidelines.

University of Otago Covid information:
https://www.otago.ac.nz/coronavirus/information-for-staff/

The current Ministry of Health COVID-19 guidelines, and relevant public health information, are available at:
https://covid19.govt.nz

Masks and ha
nd sanitiser

In order to help reduce the spread of COVID-19, masks and hand sanitiser will be available in the conference rooms. While mask use is not mandatory, we support and encourage their use, particularly to help protect Society members who may be at a higher risk of serious illness, as well as for your own protection in crowded or enclosed spaces.

We recognise that mask use may be unsuitable for those with certain health conditions or disabilities. If this applies to you, you do not need to show a Mask Exemption Pass, but you may wish to carry one.

Ministry of Health guidelines on mask use:

Room ventilation

Rooms will be ventilated so as to ensure the circulation of fresh air.

Physical distancing

While physical distancing is not mandatory, we encourage you to practice safe distancing as necessary for your own needs and comfort levels.

RAT tests

We also encourage the use of RAT tests prior to travelling to Dunedin and/or prior to arrival at the conference. RAT tests are available for free at many pharmacies and Covid testing centres. You can find information on how to get a free RAT test here: https://covid19.govt.nz/testing-and-isolation/covid-19-testing/how-to-get-a-covid-19-test/

In the case of illness

Please stay at home if you are unwell. In the case of illness, your paper may be given virtually (either as a pre-recording, or by Zoom on the day).

Know what symptoms to look out for, and have a plan. If you become unwell during the conference, please let someone know, self-isolate and follow the guidelines as per the University link.

Please also let the conference organiser know if you do test positive for COVID-19 so that other participants can be notified to watch for symptoms.

If you are travelling to the conference from out of town, please ensure you have a plan for how you might self-isolate if your stay in Dunedin is extended:

https://covid19.govt.nz/testing-and-isolation/if-you-have-covid-19/if-you-get-covid-19-while-travelling/#if-you-are-unable-to-get-home

This plan will need to include notifying your accommodation provider so that the property is safe for the next booking.
